Andheri East vs Andheri West: Same PIN Code, Very Different Worlds

Andheri is Mumbai's largest suburb — but east and west are completely different places. Here's what separates them and which side you should be on.

Andheri is Mumbai's most populous suburb — and the eastern and western halves couldn't feel more different. The railway line acts as a hard divide: West is residential and social, East is commercial and industrial-turned-corporate. Understanding this split will save you from a very regrettable lease.

Andheri West: The residential and social side

Andheri West has the better residential quality of life. Lokhandwala Complex, Oshiwara, and Versova are established, well-maintained localities with good restaurants, markets, and parks. Four Bungalows, Seven Bungalows, and Andheri West's older housing colonies have a community feel. Film industry professionals cluster here. Rents: ₹28,000–50,000 for a decent 1BHK.

Andheri East: The corporate and airport corridor

Andheri East is dominated by SEEPZ (an IT/export processing zone), corporate offices, and proximity to the airport. MIDC Andheri is a working area with limited residential appeal — but pockets like Saki Naka, Chandivali, and JB Nagar offer decent apartments at lower prices. If you work at SEEPZ, Andheri East or nearby Powai is the practical choice. Rents: ₹22,000–40,000 for 1BHK.

The metro changes things slightly

Metro Line 1 (Versova–Ghatkopar) runs through the heart of Andheri with stops at both east and west sides. This has improved connectivity for both zones. The upcoming Metro Line 7 (Andheri East–Dahisar East) will further help the eastern corridor commuters.

If you work in South Mumbai, BKC, or Andheri itself, live in Andheri West — the lifestyle is meaningfully better. If your office is at SEEPZ, Andheri East, or the airport belt, Andheri East or Chandivali makes more sense. Don't cross the railway line for a commute you don't have to.
