Best Areas to Live in Pune for IT Professionals in 2026

Hinjewadi has its trade-offs, Kharadi is booming, and Baner strikes the balance. Here's a real breakdown of Pune's IT corridors for 2026.

Pune has quietly become India's second-largest IT hub after Bangalore. The city now has three distinct IT corridors — Hinjewadi in the west, Kharadi in the east, and the central Shivajinagar belt. Where you live in Pune determines whether you have a 15-minute commute or a 75-minute one. Here's what you need to know.

If you work in Hinjewadi (Phase 1, 2, or 3)

Hinjewadi Phase 1–3 hosts companies like Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Cognizant, and dozens of startups. The best places to live nearby are Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Nilakh, and Baner. Wakad gives you a 10–15 minute commute; Baner adds lifestyle but adds traffic. Avoid living in Kothrud or Viman Nagar if you work in Hinjewadi — the commute via Katraj or through the city can exceed 90 minutes in peak hours.

If you work in Kharadi / Magarpatta

Kharadi is booming with EON IT Park, World Trade Center, and several new campuses. Viman Nagar is the premium choice — walkable to Kharadi, excellent restaurants and cafes, and 15 minutes from the airport. Kalyani Nagar (near Koregaon Park) is slightly further but offers a premium social scene. Hadapsar is very close but has less developed social infrastructure.

The versatile middle ground: Baner

Baner is Pune's closest equivalent to Koramangala — a tech-adjacent neighbourhood with a fantastic social scene, good schools, and solid connectivity. It's reasonable for Hinjewadi (30–40 min), Shivajinagar offices (25 min), and even Kharadi with the ring road (50–60 min). Rents are slightly higher than Wakad but the lifestyle makes up for it.

What to watch out for

  • Hinjewadi has very poor public transport — you need a personal vehicle or cab
  • Pune's Metro Phase 1 (Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate) is operational but doesn't yet serve Hinjewadi or Kharadi directly
  • Water availability is seasonal in some Pune suburbs — verify with locals or the society
  • Pune traffic on NH48 (Mumbai-Pune Expressway side) can be very bad on weekday mornings
For most IT professionals, Baner or Wakad offer the best combination of commute, lifestyle, and value. Viman Nagar is the premium pick for east-Pune offices. Avoid commuting cross-city in Pune — the traffic doesn't justify it.
